Apple Ipad Air

Apple's iPad Air is 20 percent thinner and 28 percent lighter than the fourth-generation iPad. IHS iSuppli found that Apple also built its latest tablet for about $42 less than its third-generation iPad (comparing the WiFi-only, entry-level versions of each), while iFixit, during its own teardown, found what Apple calls a "big leap ahead" to be several steps in the wrong direction, where repairability and environmental responsibility are concerned. "For every fixable Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire, there's a Surface Pro—or in this case, an iPad Air—to saturate the market with unrepairable devices," iFixit Chief Information Architect Miro Djuric wrote in blog post Nov. 1, the day the iPad Air went on sale. iFixit's big gripe with the iPad Air is its battery, which is secured with lots of glue, screwed in, and still requires the removal of the logic board before it can be separated from its housing. The front panel also didn't escape the glue bottle. "It's glued to the rest of the device, greatly increasing the chances of cracking the glass during a repair," said iFixit. Celebrating the small victory of the LCD being easy to remove once the front panel was off, the team gave the iPad Air a repairability score of 2 out of 10.

Apple is Testing New iPad Mini With A6 Processor But No Retina Display?

Apple is Testing New iPad Mini With A6 Processor But No Retina Display?

References in the iOS 7 SDK reveal that Apple is testing a new iPad Mini with an A6 processor but it may not have a Retina display, reports 9to5Mac.

A developer found the references inside a hidden file that lists all supported iOS 7 devices.

According to the provided information, Apple is considering three new iPad mini models: iPad “2,8,” iPad “2,9,” and iPad “2,10.” The respective code names for the devices are J75, J76, and J77. This points to one WiFi-only model and two cellular-compatible models (just like the current iPad minis). The internal nomenclature for these iPads follows the current iPad minis, which are iPad “2,5,” iPad “2,6,” and iPad “2,7.”

The document says the new iPad minis will feature a s5l8950x processor which is the same A6 chip used in the iPhone 5. Unfortunately, it appears the new iPads minis referenced do not include "@2x" hooks to higher resolution images. This suggests that perhaps they do not have a Retina display.

9to5Mac notes that "perhaps corroborating this is that the rumored Retina display iPad mini codename is 'J85,' while the iPad mini model we have learned about is 'J75'."

DigiTimes recently reported that Apple will release a slightly updated iPad mini this year but won't release a Retina display iPad mini until 2014. However, that report was followed up by another that said LG was making headway in producing Retina displays for the iPad mini. It's seems unlikely that Apple would launch a new iPad mini with a display that inferior to its rivals. Google just released a new Nexus 7 tablet that features a 1920 x 1200 HD display (323 ppi).

Exploding Samsung Galaxy S4 Allegedly Starts Fire, Destroys House

Exploding Samsung Galaxy S4 Allegedly Starts Fire, Destroys House

Samsung's hottest smartphone got a little too hot for one man in Hong Kong. The man, known only as Du, says a flaming Samsung Galaxy S4 torched his entire house, according to a report on Chinese website Xianguo.com. Du claims that while playing the game "Love Machine" he was startled by a loud pop from the phone's battery. He says he reacted quickly and threw the phone onto a nearby sofa, which promptly caught fire. The flames spread and caused serious damage to the house. He and his wife were able to escape without injuries. The news follows a report earlier this month of 18-year-old Swiss woman who received third degree burns on her leg after her Samsung Galaxy S3 exploded in her pocket. In 2012, a man in Dublin said that his Galaxy S3 caught fire while on his car's dashboard. Unofficial products have been fingered as the culprit in some of these incidents, including the case of an 18-year-old Swiss woman, whose phone exploded. She was using a discount replacement battery at the time. Mr. Du has said that his phone, charger and battery were all authentic Samsung products. Samsung Hong Kong said it is looking into the matter. Scary, freak phone accidents aren't limited to Samsung. In the past month a Chinese woman was reportedly killed by an electric shock from her iPhone 5 when she answered a call as the phone was charging, while a Chinese man fell into a coma under similar circumstances. Apple's response to these stories has been to advise people to use only official Apple chargers ...

Viber Hackers Deface App Store Description

Viber hackers have now defaced the App's AppStore description after attacking the App's support page. The attack was initially led by the Syrian Electronic Army who have taken responsibility for this latest attack as well. The description now says "We created this app to spy on you, please download it!"

Viber issued the following statement regarding the matter:
A few days ago a “hacker” was able to gain access to a couple of Viber.com email accounts via a phishing attack. This has since been fixed.

Data they recovered allowed them to deface our support site and also gain access to our iTunes Connect account (App Store) at a level that allowed them to change the description text of our app – which they did a few days ago around the same time as the original defacement. We noticed this within minutes, fixed the metadata and removed this user (in fact, all users but one) from our iTunes Connect account.

Unfortunately, on Saturday this happened again. Upon further investigation we realized this is a security issue in iTunes Connect. It seems that when you remove a user, if the user is logged in, then the user stays logged in. We hope Apple fixes this issue soon, as currently we have no way to permanently disconnect this user from our iTunes Connect. We have reached out to Apple regarding this issue and are waiting on their response.

At this point, we want to reassure users, that this has no impact on the security of the Viber App, Viber System, our databases, user information, etc. It’s merely an unfortunate nuisance.

Google Unveils Chromecast HDMI Dongle for Wirelessly Streaming Video to Your HDTV

Google has unveiled Chromecast a $35 dongle that connects to your HDTV to enable wireless streaming of video and other web content from a variety of devices.

To help make it easy to bring your favorite online entertainment to the biggest screen in your house—the TV—we’re introducing Chromecast. Chromecast is a small and affordable ($35) device that you simply plug in to your high-definition (HD) TV and it allows you to use your phone, tablet or laptop to "cast" online content to your TV screen. It works with Netflix, YouTube, Google Play Movies & TV, and Google Play Music, with more apps like Pandora coming soon. With Chromecast, we wanted to create an easy solution that works for everyone, for every TV in the house.

Remote-free
Once your Chromecast is set up, you can use your phone, tablet or laptop to browse and cast content to your TV, play and pause, control the volume, and more. But unlike other streaming solutions, you can still multitask—send emails or surf the web—while enjoying what’s on the TV screen. It works across platforms—Android tablets and smartphones, iPhones, iPads, Chrome for Mac and Windows (more to come), so your personal device is also now your remote control.

Cast the web to your TV
In addition to apps like Netflix, you can use Chromecast to bring a broad range of content available on the web to your big screen, thanks to a new feature in the Chrome browser that allows you to project any browser tab to your TV. From sharing your family photos to enjoying a video clip from your favorite news site, it’s as simple as pressing a button. This feature is launching in beta, but we’re excited for people to try it out and give us their feedback.

Google has also announced a Google Cast SDK preview for developers that will allow developers to build consistent, intuitive multi-screen experiences across mobile devices and TVs. Developers can learn more about the SDK here.

Check out the video below.

Viber App Hacked By Syrian Electronic Army

Viber, a popular messaging app, has been hacked by the Syrian Electronic Army. The news comes just days after the same group of hackers accessed the database of the Tango messaging app.

The group defaced the support site support.viber.com and posted a message acknowledging that "We weren't able to hack all Viber systems". They also alleged the service was designed for spying and tracking; however, there is no evidence to suggest this and the screenshots posted only contain device information that would be necessary for messaging app to retain.

The hackers did say that "Some backups were downloaded successfully" but it's unclear what or how much user information has been compromised.

Viber has since taken down it's site and is presumably working to address the hack.

13-Inch iPad And larger iPhones Under Testing at Apple

WSJ Reports: 13-Inch iPad And larger iPhones Under Testing at Apple

WSJ Reports: 13-Inch iPad And larger iPhones Under Testing at Apple - It has been a while since Apple launched exciting and new, even the recent MacBook Air launch proved out to be a minor refresh. Despite the Billions of dollars coming in revenue, the continuously decreasing share prices of the Cupertino company is sure to come on hard on the minds of Tim Cooks and other board members of Apple. A new report by the Wall Street Journal claims that the Apple Company might be testing with considerably larger 13-Inch iPad as well as somewhat larger iPhones.
Not being a fan of market trends, the engineers at Cupertino have kept the screen size of their iconic iPhone down to only 4 Inches but if this new report from WSJ has any truth in it, then things might be changing.
Here, have a look at a small scoop from the article,
“Apple Inc. AAPL -1.58% and its Asian suppliers are testing larger screens for iPhones and tablets, officials at the company’s suppliers say.
In recent months, Apple has asked for prototype smartphone screens larger than 4 inches and has also asked for screen designs for a new tablet device measuring slightly less than 13 inches diagonally, they said. The current iPhone 5 has a four-inch screen, while the iPad has a 9.7-inch screen. The iPad Mini, a stripped-down version of its tablet computer, has a 7.9-inch screen.”
The idea of a super-sized iPad and a phablet iPhone isn’t what comes to mind when you think of a new Apple-product, but WSJ is a reliable sources for leaking information, so it maybe that Apple might be really considering to stir things up. There’s also the thing that tech companies are always testing with various product designs and variations so don’t get your hopes up right now!
